Advantages and disadvantages of layout of nuclear power plant

Advantages

  1. The amount of fuel required is quite small.
  2. A nuclear power plant requires less space.
  3. It has low running charges as a small amount of fuel is used for producing bulk electrical energy.
  4. This type of plant is very economical for producing bulk electrical power.
  5. Nuclear power costs about the same as coal, so it’s not expensive to make.

Disadvantages

  1. The fuel used is expensive and is difficult to recover.
  2. The capital cost of a nuclear plant is very high as compared to other types of plant.
  3. The fission by-products are generally radioactive and may cause a dangerous amount of the radioactive pollution.
  4. This power plant is not well suited for varying loads.
  5. The fuel used is expensive and is difficult to recover.
