- EMF is short form of electromotive force. All the metals contain a large number of free electron which direction inside the metal piece.
EMF – Electromotive force
- If battery or voltage source is connected across the metal piece as shown in figure then pre-electron will move in one particular direction.
- The electrical force or pressure that causes the electron to move in a particular direction is called as electromotive force i.e. EMF.
- Note that the negatively changed electrons get attracted towards the positive end of the battery. The unit of EMF is also called as voltage or potential difference. It is denoted by (v).
