Lining of canals
Lining means providing a thin covering of 2.5 to 15 cm. thickness to the bed and sides of the canal. The material used for lining are bricks, stones precast concrete block, reinforced cement concrete, asphalt, clay mixtures etc.

Purpose of lining
The canals are generally lined for the following purpose.
- To reduce the seepage losses in the canal.
- To prevent scoring of bedsides.
- To improve the discharge of canal by increasing the velocity of flowing water.
- To economized the construction of the canal.
