Advantages and disadvantages of junction field effect transistor (JFET)

There are some important advantages of junction field effect transistor (JFET) are given below,

  1. The junction field effect transistor (JFET) is a majority charge carrier device hence it has less noise.
  2. The JFET has high input impedance.
  3. The JFET is a low power consumption device.
  4. The JFET can be fabricated in small size area.
  5. JFETs occupy less space in circuits due to its smaller size.
  6. JFETs are protected to radiation.
  7. The JFET has negative temperature coefficient of resistance, so they posses higher Temperature Stability.

There are some important disadvantages of junction field effect transistor (JFET) are given below,

  1. The main disadvantage of the junction field effect transistor (JFET) is the relatively low gain bandwidth product.
  2. The performance of JFET go downs as frequency increases due to feedback by internal capacitance.
