What is Universal Serial Bus?

The USB stands for universal serial bus. It is a most common type of port which is used in computers. The Universal Serial Bus industry standard was established in 1995, and then quickly adopted by intel, compaq,microsoft and other companies. The USB (Universal Serial Bus) is the most popular connection which is used to connect a computer to devices such as digital cameras, printers, scanners, and external hard drives. It may also be used to send power to certain devices, such as smart phones and tablets, as well as charge their batteries.

There is some major version of USB which are given below,

  • USB 1.1 : The USB 1.1 devices can reach a maximum transmission rate of 12 Mbps.
  • USB 2.0 : The USB 2.0 acquiescent devices can reach a maximum transmission rate of 480 Mbps.
  • USB 3.0 : USB 3.0 compliant hardware can reach a maximum transmission rate of 5,120 Mbps or 5 GB per second.
  • USB 3.1 : The USB 3.1 compliant devices are able to transfer data at 10,240 Mpbs or 10 GB per second.
