Advantages and disadvantages of ultrasonic level measurement

There are some advantages of ultrasonic level measurement which are given below,

  • The ultrasonic level measurement is suitable for measurement in liquid and solid.
  • It is simple in construction and design.
  • It does not require contact with processed material.
  • It provides continuous level measurement.
  • It has high accuracy.
  • The sensitivity is high.

There are some disadvantages of ultrasonic level measurement which are given below,

  • The ultrasonic level measurement is comparatively expensive.
  • If heavy foam is present on the surface it acts as an absorbent which creates errors.
  • Targets of low density, like foam and cloth, tend to absorb sound energy; these materials may be difficult to sense at long range.
